The Daruma doll is a Japanese tradition of goal setting. At that start of one's goal, one of the two eyes is drawn in. Traditionally, a Daruma is weighted so when pushed it returns to an upright position. This symbolizes the persistence to reach that goal. Once the goal is completed, the second eye is drawn in.
